d FINDING fall 4 U

SPICING UP THE BOB FOR FALL 2007
With the changing season, comes a change in weather and finally we are ready for change. So what are you going to do for fall? Hair? Fashion? Fun?

I am often asked by clients in the salon, what are the trends for fall? My response is always the same... It depends on which fashion magazine you are reading. Everyone has their opinion. And while there are certain aspects of TRENDS that influence most of us, each individual woman must be kept individualized based on HER.

So what then makes a fall hairstyle? How it looks with your fall fashion. Think about it. If you have been wearing long layers for summer, will that work as well for you in the fall? Not really. What happens is when the temperature starts dropping and coats, sweaters, scarves and higher collars are added to the mix, the longer layers no longer work as well, or look as good, as they did during hot summer months. The length start looking unkempt, the lighter colors you were loving for summer, start looking dry and damaged. It's time for your fall make over!

While current TRENDS are great, the order of considerations that should be discussed "for your individualized benefit" before TRENDS are:

Color Analysis - do you look better in warm, cool or neutral colors regarding your hair and make up? Is your skin more textured or is it more clear... or is it a combination of texture and clear? Do you look better in lighter, darker or medium colored hair?

Face Shape - long? round? heart? square? diamond? oval?

Style Personality - I do nothing with my hair to style it. This is a NATURAL style personality. I like my hair to be neat and kept. This is more CLASSIC. I like my hair to be unique, but not too crazy. This is more ARTISTIC. I like everyone to notice my hair rocks. This is more DRAMATIC. I love my long hair and I would die if it was ever cut short. This is called the ROMANTIC style personality. Most women are a combination of two to three STYLE PERSONALITIES based on work, play and/or pleasure.

Body Type - wider shoulders, narrower hips / same width of shoulders as hips / narrow shoulders, wider hips / hour glass figure.

Lifestyle - active, moderate, low activity.

Finally we come to TRENDS. A TREND is nothing more than someone else's opinion regarding how he or she interprets the world. Then, you ask yourself, does this work for me? Your stylist should be keeping you up-to-date with what works and what doesn't based on current fashion. The 80's are over. If your stylist is keeping you locked into decades gone by, move on. There are plenty of fantastic stylists. It's your stylist's responsibility to keep you "looking hot!" If your look is dated, set your stylist free! In other words, find someone else!

Fashion and hairstyle TRENDS are recycled or better described as reinvented or up-dated from past fashion icons. The most popular and practical hairstyle for fall and winter is THE BOB. The BOB can be individualized for each and ever style personality, except the ROMANTIC. Remember, the ROMANTIC could never leave the house with shorter hair.

Louise Brooks, the 1920's Silent Film Star was given the title of "Queen of The BOB." Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) is wearing her interpretation of the BOB for fall 2007.

It was women like Louise Brooks who brought liberation, freedom and acceptance to women's fashion. Ms. Brooks was born on November 14, 1906 in Cherryvale, Kansas and died on August 8, 1985 at the age of 78 in Rochester, New York. During one of her interviews she said, "I have the gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you, it will be with a knife."
